EH Clubs Forum (published 16-Mar-19)

Message from Gaynor Toms EH:

I have the great pleasure of announcing the next wave of ClubForums. This time the main topic will be around Valuing Volunteers, recruiting and retaining them.

We all know how important volunteers are to our game and as we head into the time of year where AGM meetings are held and plans for the coming season are put in place clubs have requested ideas tips and hints about how to tackle a lack of volunteers. The evening will consist of a presentation but the main learning will come from the clubs networking and speaking with each other sharing good practice. Please make every effort to send at least one representative from your club along to one of the following evenings.

Monday 25th March – 7-9.30pm – Bournemouth Hockey Club – Chapel Gate, East Parley, Christchurch, Dorset. BH23 6BL

Tuesday 2nd April – 7-9.30pm – Horsham Hockey Club - Cricket Field Rd, Horsham RH12 1TE

 Tuesday 9th April – 7-9.30pm -Old Cranleighans Hockey  Club – Thames Ditton KT7 0HB

Wednesday 10th April – 7-9.30pm -Haslemere Hockey Club - Woolmer Hill Sports Ground, Woolmer Hill Rd, Haslemere GU27 1QA

Please confirm your club attendance and attendees by contacting Jenny.Mitchell@englandhockey.co.uk before the 20th March so we can confirm numbers with the venues. Places will be reserved on a first come first served basis. I am reliably informed that there

Hugh Thomas - Sussex HA Vice President (published 15-Feb-19)

Horsham Hockey Club is very sad to announce the passing of our president, Hugh Thomas.  A founder member of our modern club in 1969, Hugh assumed the role of president in 1977 and has held many roles within the Club and on  country committees since.  Hugh has been such an integral part of Horsham for so long, he will be badly missed, but will never be forgotten.  All Horsham teams this weekend will be observing a minute's silence in his honour.

We will advise funeral details in due course for anyone outside the club who wishes to attend.

Ladies Plate and Vase competition (published 15-Jan-19)

Thank you all for such a wonderful day of hockey.

Thank you to all those who stepped in to help me pitch side. Particular thanks to Becca Barnes who was a god-send at the High School pitch. Becca arrived at 9am to open the pitch and didn't leave until the competition had almost ended.  Having no official affiliation with the competition, she was simply being what good hockey is all about!!

Thanks also to all the umpires who stepped in to umpire other teams: Jean Hewitt (southwick) Tina Keartland (Chichester) John Procter (Chichester/Centurions) Kirsty (Burgess Hill) Jess (Brighton) and Andrew (Mid Sussex). Some of these umpires spent more time in the January cold than any player today and the games ran brilliantly because of all the umpires involved.

The finalists will play as part of the Sussex Finals Day. Date and venue TBC, provisionally 13/14 April.

Finals for the PLATE competition will involve:
Centurions v Horsham 4s

Finals for the VASE competition will involve:
Chichester 3s v Mid Sussex 2s

I'll keep those teams informed of dates and venues. When we have confirmation, it will also be posted on the Sussex Hockey website so feel free to come along and watch!

If anyone is interested in taking on the organisation of these comps in future, or working with me with the aim do so later, please do let me know -forward to all your club members in case there is interest.

At the end of the season, there will be a meeting where all clubs are invited to make any suggestions/developments in this competition.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your season all!

Best Wishes,
Christina.
